Digital studio Vuguru recruited Lauren Corrao, former president of original programming at Comedy Central, as chief creative officer to head up development of long-form programming.

Corrao, who reports to CEO Larry Tanz, will oversee all creative for Vuguru and will lead its expansion into half- and one-hour long-form series development and production. She replaces Kristin Jones, who left the company in August.

“As Vuguru expands its investment in long form scripted series creation, Lauren will be a key component to identifying and building groundbreaking projects.” Vuguru CEO Larry Tanz said in announcing her hire.

Most recently, Corrao was president of A Very Good Production, a partnership with Ellen DeGeneres to develop and produce TV for Warner Bros. She led the development of ABC comedy “The Smart One,” starring Portia de Rossi, Jean Smart, Malin Ackerman and David Arquette.

At Comedy Central, Carrao oversaw development of such series as “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” and “South Park” as well as “Reno 911!”, “Chappelle’s Show”, “Tosh.0” and “The Sarah Silverman Show,” and also led creation of comedy specials including the the Comedy Central Roast franchise. She has also worked as a programming development exec at Touchstone Television, Fox Broadcasting and MTV Networks.

“Vuguru is a leader with a proven track record in betting on great creative and scripted programming and the company has been a trailblazer in working with new platforms all around the world,” Corrao said in a statement.

Vuguru, backed by Michael Eisner’s Tornante, has licensing and distribution deals with AOL and Yahoo and has licensed original programming to Syfy Digital, CW Digital, YouTube and Hulu.
