In light of the shootings at the Washington Navy Yard, the White House has postponed Monday night’s scheduled concert in the East Room that was to feature Gloria Estefan, Ricky Martin, Arturo Sandoval, Lila Downs and other musicians to honor Hispanic Heritage Month.

The event, “Musica Latina: In Performance at the White House,” was to be the latest in a series of concerts hosted by President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama.

The first lady on Monday morning did appear at a White House workshop for students along with Gloria and Emilio Estefan, Downs, Romeo Santos and Marco Antonio Solis. She said the artists “have not only helped Latin music move into the mainstream, but they have produced some of the biggest hits this world, this country has ever seen.”

No new date for the concert has been announced.
