Variety’s POWER OF YOUTH Celebration Kicks Off Today at Universal Studios

The World’s Greatest Block Party takes place Saturday, July 27, at the Universal Studios Backlot

Variety’s annual Power of Youth event is like the block party of your dreams, where everything is big and colorful and where adults enjoy themselves as much as the youngsters. The only difference is that most of the grown-ups earn a fraction of what some of these young’uns bring home.

The event is not to celebrate their earning power (though it’s impressive). It’s to recognize the fact that five performers, all under the age of 25, have been doing active duty in the world of philanthropy.

The seventh annual event, dubbed the World’s Greatest Block Party, returns to Universal Studios, which hosted the original POY fete. The guest list of 500 includes showbiz folks and their families, movers-shakers in entertainment and philanthropy — and, of course, the honorees who are saluted in today’s Youth Impact Report, as well as reps (and kids) from the charities that each champions.

If that sounds serious, don’t fret. There will be all the trappings of a block party: food, music, electronics and swarms of over-excited youngsters. Games? You betcha. The entire event is being presented by Hasbro, after all, which stresses the message that the biggest winners are those who give back.
