AFM: Israeli Film ‘Big Bad Wolves’ Gets Boost From Tarantino (EXCLUSIVE)

Helmer cites film at Busan fest as it goes on to close deals in Germany and France, among others

A little love goes a long way. Championed by Quentin Tarantino as the best film of 2013, Tribeca hit “Big Bad Wolves” has closed Germany with Constantin Film and France with Metropolitan Export.

Put through by Madrid’s 6 Sales, the deals closed right after Tarantino made an appearance at a Q&A in Busan, after “Wolves’” screened there, to proclaim that “not only is this the best film at Busan, this is the best film of the year.”

The sophomore outing of fast-on-the-rise Israeli scribe-helmers Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado, “Big Bad Wolves” recently sealed Spain with Inopia. Japan is under negotiation; 6 Sales also aims to license Latin America at the American Film Market.

“We couldn’t be more grateful to Quentin Tarantino for his support. He’s really helped shine a light on the film,” said Marina Fuentes of 6 Sales.

“The fact that two of the biggest distributors in two of the world’s biggest territories have acquired this film further confirms the standout status of ‘Big Bad Wolves,’” added 6 Sales’ Mar Abadin.

“Wolves” has garnered other accolades. The revenge-thriller won the director prize at October’s Sitges Festival, and best film and screenplay at Montreal’s Fantasia Film Festival. In August, it closed London’s Film 4 Fright Fest, the U.K.’s biggest genre confab.

Magnolia’s Magnet Releasing has acquired “Big Bad Wolves,” which world-premiered at Tribeca, for North American distribution. Metrodome, another blue-chip European distributor, has the U.K., NonStop Turner Scandinavia, Transmission Australia and Lion Media the CIS and Russia.
