Le Pacte, the French distributor of Nicolas Winding Refn’s competition-preeming “Only God Forgives,” has boarded director Duncan Jones’ “Fleming,” turning on James Bond creator Ian Fleming.

Deal was announced by K5 co-founders Oliver Simon and Daniel Baur on Wednesday at the Cannes Film Festival.

Jones has teamed with Roger Avary to write the script, based on author Andrew Lycett’s “Ian Fleming, the Man Behind James Bond.”

Fleming was a British secret agent before becoming a best-selling author. He travelled the world masterminding covert operations that later inspired him to create the Bond superspy character.

Jones will explore and tie together events in the author’s life that lead up to the 007 franchise. He is currently casting the film.

Le Pacte will handle French distribution rights and co-produce.

K5’s Simon and Baur, Kevin FrakesPalmStar Media Capital and Stuart Fenegan’s Liberty Films are producing the pic, which is backed by Jim Young and Robert Laycock of the Ian Fleming Estate. K5 Intl. is handling worldwide rights.

Le Pacte’s Jean Labadie said, “We are thrilled to be part of this exciting one-of-a-kind adventure, with such great partners. The sheer quality of the project, along with the unique talent of Duncan Jones, will make it a must-see for all movie lovers.”

Jones is repped by Jay Baker and Maha Dakhil at CAA in the U.S. and Jack Thomas at Independent Talent Group in London.
