SXSW: Magnet Nabs North America Rights to ‘Milo’

Jacob Vaughan's comedy chiller stars Ken Marino

Magnet Releasing nabbed all North American distribution rights to Jacob Vaughan’s gut-wrenching horror-comedy “Milo,” which world-preemed to aud and critic raves March 10 in the SXSW Film Festival’s narrative spotlight program.

The deal, inked Friday night, was negotiated by Magnolia/Magnet senior VP of acquisitions Dori Begley and director of acquisitions Peter Van Steemburg and ICM Partners on behalf of the filmmakers and producers.

Pic stars Ken Marino as an accountant whose chronic stomach woes are caused by a murderously mischievous demon baby living in his colon.

Milo” was co-penned by Vaughan and Benjamin Hayes, and also stars Gillian Jacobs, Peter Stormare, Stephen Root, Patrick Warburton and Mary Kay Place.

The pic was produced by Adele Romanski and New Artist Alliance’s John Suits and Gabriel Cowan, and the exec producer roster includes SXSW veterans Mark and Jay Duplass, John Norris, Clay Foren, Aimee Shieh, Kerry Johnson, Dallas Sonnier and Jack Heller.

“Just like Ken Marino, our stomachs were hurting watching ‘Milo,’ happily because of laughter rather than an intestinal demon,” said Magnolia prexy Eamonn Bowles.
