Celestial Tiger Signs Movie Pacts With Universe, Mega-Vision

Lionsgate-backed Asian channels group expands HK output deals to five

HONG KONG — Asian pay-TV channels operator Celestial Tiger Entertainment has inked a pair of output deals with Hong Kong film studios Mega Vision Project Workshop and Universe Entertainment.

CTE, which is backed by Lionsgate and Saban Capital Group from the US and Malaysia’s Astro, intends the films for its Celestial Movies channel in Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei. The deals span first-run pay-TV, pay-per-view and VoD rights.

The company also has agreements with Media Asia Distribution, Emperor Motion Picture and Distribution Workshop (HK) and says that the five output deals will give Celestial Movies rights to the majority of theatrically released Hong Kong movies.

MVP’s recent and current upcoming titles include actioner “Young and Dangerous: Reloaded” (pictured), comedy “Princess and Seven Kung Fu Masters,” Chow Yun-fat-starring casino-themed drama “From Vegas to Macau,” and “Black Comedy.”

Universe’s slate includes thriller “Conspirators,” directed by Oxide Pang, fire-fighting action adventure “Out of Inferno 3D,” and the big budget action epic “The White Storm,” directed by Benny Chan.

CTE’s channel portfolio includes Celestial Movies, Celestial Classic Movies, Celestial Movies HD, KIX, KIX HD and Thrill. Celestial Movies carries some 400 films per year all with localized sub-titles.
