Zac Efron and Amber Heard will star in director Eran Creevy’s car-chase thriller “Autobahn,” IM Global CEO Stuart Ford announced Wednesday at Cannes.

Set in Europe, and fully financed by IM Global, “Autobahn” is written by F. Scott Frazier and Creevy.

It turns on an American backpacker (Efron) who becomes a pick-up driver for a pan-European drug cartel. Involved in a rival gang’s scam that goes wrong, he is forced to flee at breakneck speed down Germany’s autobahns — high-speed freeways — while preventing his g.f. (Heard) from being taken hostage.

“Autobahn” is produced by 42’s Ben Pugh and Rory Aitken and Automatik’s Brian Kavanaugh-Jones. Chris Cowles and Chris Fenton at H2F exec produce.

Efron is shooting comedy “Townies for U” and will be seen in romantic comedy “Are We Officially Dating?” and drama “Parkland.” Heard will be seen in thriller “Paranoia,” McG’s “Three Days to Kill” and Robert Rodriguez’s “Machete Kills.”

Efron is repped by CAA, manager Jason Barrett and attorney Patti Felker. Heard is represented by WME, manager Geyer Kosinski and attorney Karl Austen. Ford negotiated for the producers and financiers.
