VH1 cancels ‘Ev and Ocho’ before series airs

Johnson's arrest gives cabler reason to say goodbye

VH1 has yanked the yet-to-air reality series “Ev and Ocho” from its lineup in the wake of Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson being charged with domestic battery against wife Evelyn Lozada.

Johnson allegedly head-butted Lozado and was arrested over the weekend. The longtime NFL star was hoping to make a comeback with the Miami Dolphins, and his exploits were being aired on HBO’s “Hard Knocks” series, which began last week.

Following the incident, however, the Dolphins have dropped Johnson from the team.

“Due to the unfortunate events over the weekend and the seriousness of the allegations, VH1 is pulling the series ‘Ev and Ocho’ from its schedule and has no current plans of airing it,” said the cabler in its official statement.

“Ev and Ocho” followed the couple as they planned their July 4 wedding and was slated to bow an eight-episode first season on Sept. 3.

Series, produced by Shed Media and Juma Entertainment, was already in the can when charges were filed against Johnson. VH1 has removed the show’s homepage from the net’s website as well.

Evelyn Lozada rose to reality TV fame as a cast member on VH1’s “Basketball Wives.” Johnson recently appeared on HBO’s “Hard Knocks,” and on VH1’s “The Ultimate Catch.”
