TruTV has renewed “Black Gold” for a fifth season, ordering 10 episodes of the unscripted skein.

Net is planning to air the new season in the winter.

“Black Gold” follows crews drilling for oil in Texas. Series averaged 1.6 million viewers during season four, ranking high in male demos for its Wednesday 10 p.m. cable timeslot.

“‘Black Gold’ has been an important part of the TruTV lineup since we rebranded the network in 2008, and last year it really proved its value with the most-watched season yet,” said TruTV exec VP Marc Juris.

Skein is produced by Thom Beers’ Original Prods., the shingle responsible for other high-octane reality programming including “Deadliest Catch” and “Ice Road Truckers.”
