Time Warner offers Knicks sweepstakes

Move comes after NBA team got the boot from TWC in carriage spat

Time Warner Cable, looking to drum up some Knicks actions for its bereft subscribers, Friday announced a sweepstakes where 10 fans can win a trip for two to see the recharged New York NBA team play the Charlotte Bobcats at the Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte on Jan 24.

Move comes after the Knicks, Rangers and other area teams got the boot from Time Warner Cable on Dec. 31 in a carriage spat with MSG Networks, which carries the games. There continues to be contact but no particularly productive discussions between the two sides.

”At Time Warner Cable, we’re sports fans, too,” said John Quigley, regional VP of Operations for TW in New York City.

”We don’t like MSG’s blackout any more than our customers do. We appreciate our customers’ patience while we work toward an agreement to bring MSG back to our lineup,” he added.

MSG was said to be asking for a 53% increase to renew its contract that expired at year to Time Warner’s offer of a 6.5% hike.

The finalists will also receive $500 Visa gift cards and few will score courtside seats.
