Showtime has given a new title for the last season of “The Big C,” as well as extended the length of each episode.
Titled “The Big C: Hereafter,” the normally 30-minute episodes will be extended to an hour each. Net had previously announced there would be only four episodes remaining in the series.
No date has been set for when the final abbreviated season will launch, though it will likely be in 2013. The most recent 10-episode season, which was the show’s third, ended June 17.
“We wanted to take particular care to honor the fans of the show with a compelling and memorable conclusion,” said Showtime topper David Nevins.
The series, from Sony Pictures Television, stars Laura Linney as a woman struggling with a cancer diagnosis who decides to shake up her life from normal rituals.
Guest stars for the final season include Kathy Najimy and Isaac Mizrahi.
Exec producers are Darlene Hunt, who created the skein, along with Linney, Jenny Bicks, Vivian Cannon, Neal H. Moritz, Michael Engler and Richard Heus.
