Doc chronicles both the criminal and altruistic sides of the famed Latin American drug lord and became Colombia’s highest-grossing documentary to date.
“Pablo” helmer and producer Jorge Granier said he is “pleased to be partnering with NBC/Telemundo, who are the ideal partner to tell this story and bring it to American television audiences.”
Doc will also be available non-exclusively on Telemundo’s mobile, digital and VOD platforms. Net has yet to set an air date for “Pablo.”
Docu broadcast will benefit from momentum created by telenovela “Pablo Escobar: Boss of Evil,” which bowed on Telemundo to U.S. audiences in July. Sudser preem landed nearly 2.2 million viewers, and the show has since averaged 1.8 million viewers premiere-to-date.
Granier serves as RCTV Intl. managing director and aims to bring the company’s vast library of Latin American TV formats Stateside. At present, he’s developing several drama and comedy projects for basic and premium cable nets in the U.S.
