TBS nabs syndie rights to ‘Rules of Engagement’

CBS comedy to make cable bow on Jan. 2

Sony Pictures Television has sold off-net rights to veteran CBS comedy “Rules of Engagement” to TBS, the companies announced Wednesday.

“Rules,” which recently shot its 100th episode, bows Jan. 2. Five seasons of the series have already been running on stations owned by Tribune, CBS and Weigel in 96% of the country. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Rules” has been something of a utility player for CBS in recent years, pressed into duty in tough time slots each midseason. The comedy will be back on the Eye sked on Mondays at 8:30 p.m. as of Feb. 4 in place of canceled half-hour “Partners.”

Tom Hertz, Doug Robinson and Jack Giarraputo are executive producers of “Rules,” which is produced by Happy Madison Prods. and CBS Television Studios in association with Sony.

Series stars Oliver Hudson, Bianca Kajlich, Patrick Warburton, Megyn Price, David Spade and Adhir Kalyan.
