Sofia Vergara sets ‘Killer Women’ at ABC

Thesp producing Argentine series adaptation with Ben Silverman

Sofia Vergara and Ben Silverman are teaming with the Alphabet for a sudsy procedural about a femme Texas ranger.

“Killer Women,” from ABC Studios, will be based on the Argentine series “Mujeres Asesinas” from POL-KA Productiones. Hannah Shakespeare (“The Raven”) is penning the adaptation. Renditions of the format have already aired in Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador and Italy.

Alphabet has given a script commitment to the project. Helmer Martin Campbell is also on board to exec produce with Vergara, Silverman, Shakespeare and Luis Balaguer, Vergara’s producing partner in her Latin World Entertainment banner.

Shakespeare most recently penned John Cusack thriller “The Raven.” Recent TV credits include “The Playboy Club,” “The Whole Truth” and “The Philanthropist.”

Vergara and Balaguer have been looking to ramp up TV production at Latin World. Last year Vergara teamed with Silverman to develop a father-son comedy for ABC based on a popular laffer from Spain’s Antena 3.
