Oxygen adds five shows to 2012 slate

'Girlfriend' franchise will feature NY and LA editions

Oxygen is taking a cue from its sibling cabler Bravo in greenlighting a multi-city reality franchise dubbed “Girlfriend Confidential,” which will bow with Gotham and L.A. editions.

The twin skeins are part of a slate of five new unscripted series coming to the NBCUniversal cabler this year. Oxygen prexy Jason Klarman touted a 50% increase in original programming Wednesday afternoon at the cabler’s upfront at Gotham’s Dream Hotel. The bubbly affair featured soap bubbles raining down from above the hotel’s entrance and a lounge area teeming with yellow flowers.

The other new skeins are: “All the Right Moves,” revolving around choreographer Travis Wall’s effort to launch his own dance company; “My Shopping Addiction,” focusing on compulsive shoppers; and “I’m Having Their Baby,” about pregnant women struggling with whether to put their babies up for adoption.

Wall was joined on stage by his co-stars, Teddy Forance (dancer/choreographer with “Cirque du Soleil”), Nick Lazzarini (“So You Think You Can Dance” winner) and Julliard-trained Kyle Robinson for a rousing dance number.

Oxygen brass were in a celebratory mood. Earlier in the day, the cabler announced that it had inked a key sponsorship deal with Brach’s candy, which has tapped Oxygen as its sole broadcast partner for the candy maker’s 2012 image revamp. In an effort to reach younger auds, Brach’s will partner with Oxygen on a multiplatform campaign for the docu-series premiere of “The Next Big Thing: NY.”

Execs talked up three other shows in development: “Videostar” (a competish to star in a musicvid), “Propos’d” (hidden camera show revolving around marriage proposals), and “Longest.Date.Ever” (following women who are set up on a weeklong first date).

“Girlfriend Confidential: NY” will follow a clutch of young women working in media, fashion and celebrity PR. It’s produced by Discovery Studios with Daniel Soiseth and Jason Sands exec producing. The L.A. edition revolves around “America’s Next Top Model” winner Eva Marcille and her entourage. It’s produced by Ish Entertainment, with Michael Hirschorn, Wendy Roth, Madison Merritt and Gil Lopez exec producing.

“All the Right Moves” hails from World of Wonder Prods., with Randy Barbato, Fenton Bailey and Tom Campbell exec producing. “My Shopping Addiction” comes from Screaming Flea Prods. and exec producers Matt Chan, Jodi Flynn and Jeff Kuntz. Hud:sun Media’s Michael Rourke and Michelle Kongkasuwan are exec producers of “I’m Having Their Baby.”
