NBC has ordered a comedy pilot from Ryan Murphy and 20th Century Fox Television.
The “Glee” creator and two other executive producers from the Fox series, Dante Di Loreto and Allison Adler, are behind “The New Normal,” a single-camera family comedy centering on a gay couple and the woman who becomes their surrogate.
The “Normal” pickup wasn’t entirely unexpected given there was a significant penalty attached to the put pilot.
Already attached in one the lead roles is Andrew Rannells (“The Book of Mormon”).
“Normal” represents a few firsts for Murphy’s growing TV empire, which also includes FX drama “American Horror Story.” The pilot is his first half-hour project and he’s never landed a project at NBC before.
In other pilot news, Jake Kasdan has signed on to helm another Twentieth comedy for Fox, “Ben Fox Is My Manny.” Kasdan did same for another Fox comedy this season, “New Girl.”
