NBC dominates social-media buzz among pilots

Peacock claims half of top 10, led by 'Normal'

NBC has half of the top 10 most talked-about fall pilots on social media one week before fall series start premiering, according to research firm Trendrr.

“The New Normal” is finding the right time to be the top-ranked series across a combination of Twitter, Facebook, GetGlue and Viggle. The Peacock comedy, which generated 27,162 social mentions across those four social platforms from Aug. 27 to Sept. 3, just had its premiere date moved up a day to Sept. 10, with a second episode scheduled to air in its regular 9:30 p.m. time slot the following night.

NBC’s strong social showing was buoyed by “Go On,” “Revolution” and “Animal Practice” finishing fourth through sixth, with “Guys With Kids” ranking eighth. It probably helped that NBC allowed viewers to sample the pilot episodes four of the five series either on TV during the Olympics or online in the weeks preceding their premieres.

That likely also boosted Fox’s sole entry in the Trendrr list, No. 3 “The Mindy Project,” which was also made available online last week.

The No. 2 entry was CBS’ sole entry: CBS drama “Vegas,” which generated 22,682 mentions, the overwhelming majority of which were generated on Facebook alone. While “Vegas” wasn’t exactly a close second to “Normal,” It finished far ahead of “Mindy,” with 14,783.

ABC rounded out the list with three entries: “666 Park Avenue” (seventh), “Nashville” (ninth) and “The Last Resort” (tenth).

Five of the series that topped Trendrr’s first pilot-buzz list the same week last year are still kicking, including top-ranked “Once Upon A Time.” The same cannot be said for the No. 2 entry in 2011, “The Playboy Club.”
