The New York Television Festival, heading into its eight year, Friday announced nine development partners for its 2012 edition this fall including IFC, MTV and VH1.
IFC, which acquired upcoming series “Bunk” out of the 2010 fest, has joined MTV and VH1 as award sponsor for the Pilot Competition and is seeking comedy submissions for its third annual Out of the Box award.
MTV is looking for animated and live-action comedies and VH1 for unscripted formats for its VH1 Creative Lab “Theory of Creativity” Award that includes a development deal.
The growing festival is striving to become the Sundance of television — identifying independent creative talent and fostering connections with networks, studios and brands. It unspools Oct. 22-27 at Tribeca Cinemas and the 92YTribeca in lower Manhattan.
Sundance Channel, SevenOne Intl., Bio Channel, Logo, Hasbro Studios and Channel 4 have signed on to take pitches and guarantee a development deal each for one producer. Hasbro is the first partner in the children’s entertainment category. Channel 4 is the first international network partner.
