Lifetime rejects ‘American Housewife’

Melanie Griffith pilot not going forward as series

Lifetime is saying no to “This American Housewife.”

Pilot, starring Melanie Griffith and directed by David Slade, who exec produced with Antonio Banderas, Erik Jendresen and Ray Ricord, was not what the femme-skewing cabler was looking for and won’t be getting a series order.

Show, which also starred “24” and “Desperate Housewives” vet Jeffrey Nordling, Kacey Rohl and Ken Luckey, as well as Banderas in a guest-starring role, centered on Griffith’s character — an overwhelmed wife and mother who begins to hear voices and has conversations with herself.

Project was produced by Fox Television Studios.

Lifetime recently launched Jennifer Love Hewitt starrer “The Client List” to solid ratings and will return the fourth season of “Drop Dead Diva” in June.

In development is “Cinnamon Girl,” starring Renee Zellweger, based partly on her own experiences growing up.
