Lifetime’s success with unscripted series “Dance Moms” has spurred the femme-centric cabler to develop a reality show about pint-sized figure skaters and competitive matrons entitled “Ice Moms.”
The skein is being developed by Lifetime and Collins Avenue, the latter run by Jeff Collins, exec producer of A&E’s “Billy the Exterminator” and new Animal Planet show “American Stuffers.”
“Dance Moms” gained steadily in the ratings during its first season last year; the show generated both acclaim for its quality and criticism for its subject matter, as pundits pondered the popularity of shows about kids under parental pressure like “Moms” and “Toddlers and Tiaras.”
Lifetime recently greenlit series spinoff “Dance Moms: Miami” for six episodes. “Dance Moms” is the youngest-skewing Lifetime program with a median age of about 37.
