Helmer Jake Kasdan has signed a two-year overall deal with 20th Century Fox Television.

Under the deal, Kasdan will serve as exec producer on both the Elizabeth Meriwether-created “New Girl” and the Dana Fox-created “Ben and Kate,” along with developing new projects.

“He’s going to be pretty busy on those two series,” 20th Century chairman Gary Newman told Variety. “Jake is very much on the same page as Liz and her team.”

Kasdan directed the pilot for “New Girl” along with several episodes during its first season while exec producing the comedy. He will continue directing episodes during its upcoming second season.

“Ben and Kate,” a pilot he also directed, was ordered to series by Fox and bows Sept. 25. Kasdan will exec produce that series as well.

On the bigscreen, Kasdan recently helmed “Bad Teacher,” which Newman said is a reflection of how the director’s sensibilities mesh with those of the Fox audience.

“?’Bad Teacher’ is a good example of a movie appealing to a younger generation. Fox’s Tuesday-night comedy block, with ‘New Girl’ as a centerpiece, is speaking to a younger audience than other networks are generally speaking to … Jake has set a template for the type of show Fox is looking for.’?”
