Japan to back 10 TV co-prod’ns

Communications Ministry pushes export of regional TV content

TOKYO — Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications has announced 10 TV projects, principally from regional broadcasters and production houses, that will be made into programs in cooperation with overseas partners.

The projects were selected from 107 submitted from July 10 to 27. The idea is to develop continuing relationships between regional broadcasters and production houses, and their foreign counterparts.

Among the winners were the National Board of Regional Visual Industry Associations, Okinawa Television Broadcasting, Cosmo Space, Yamagata Television System, Chubu-Nippon Broadcasting, Hokkaido Television Broadcasting, Hokkaido Broadcasting and Alile Engineers.

The initiative is part of the Communications Ministry’s push to sell more regional TV content to overseas markets.
