Garrett to CBS chief White House correspondent

Bob Schieffer announces appointment on 'Face the Nation'

CBS News has tapped Major Garrett as its chief White House correspondent.

Garrett fills the role vacated by Norah O’Donnell, who became a host on “CBS This Morning” in the fall.

Bob Schieffer announced the appointment on Sunday’s “Face the Nation.” Garrett contributed to the Eye’s campaign coverage during this year’s presidential race.

Garrett previously served as Fox News’ chief White House correspondent, working at the cable news net until 2010, when he transitioned to weekly newsmag “National Journal.” Garrett will continue to pen his column for the magazine as a correspondent at large. Prior to Fox News, Garrett served as CNN’s White House correspondent.

CBS News prexy David Rhodes called Garrett “a tireless reporter and strong writer who will be a tremendous addition to our Washington bureau.”
