Disney and Cox Communications have renewed their affiliate deal that will pave the way for new authenticated video apps on digital platforms.

Financial terms of the multi-year pact were not disclosed, but it covers 70 different brands from ABC to ESPN.

New to Cox subscribers as a result of the deal will be the ability to access live and VOD content both in and outside the home on an assortment of devices via branded apps including ABC, ABC Family, Disney Channel and ESPN. Pact will also see an expansion of those brands’ VOD presences available on TV.

Cox TV Connect, an app that enables live viewing of linear channels inside the home, will add ESPNews and ESPN Classic as part of the affiliate deal. That brings the total number of channels on that app to 90.

The Disney-Cox deal isn’t the only major affiliate agreement the conglom has struck this year. Disney did an even bigger carriage pact with Comcast back in January that was acknowledged for setting a template for incorporating TV Everywhere features in affiliate deals.

It’s unknown when Disney and Cox’s current affiliate deal was scheduled to expire but the companies characterized the new agreement as an “early renewal.”
