Taping of the final two episodes of Comedy Central’s “The Colbert Report” this week was abruptly shuttered Wednesday, due to what the cabler said in a statement were “unforeseen circumstances.”

The Wall Street Journal reported that the production halt came because of a family emergency for host Stephen Colbert.

Comedy Central placed reruns on the schedule in place of the original episodes originally planned for Wednesday and Thursday. “Colbert” episodes typically air the night they are taped.

According to reports online, ticketholders for Wednesday’s episode received notification earlier that day that the taping had been canceled.

“Colbert” had returned to new episodes Monday and Tuesday after a week’s vacation. In its most recent full week of original episodes, it averaged 1.5 million viewers per airing.
