Andy Samberg to star in BBC’s ‘Cuckoo’

'Saturday Night Live' star to topline alongside Davies, Baxendale

LONDON — Andy Samberg, who recently exited “Saturday Night Live,” is to co-star with British Greg Davies, best known for “The Inbetweeners,” in a BBC sitcom.

“Cuckoo,” produced by Roughcut Television, is created and written by Robin French and Kieron Quirke, and recounts the capers that ensue when horrified parents (played by Davies and Helen Baxendale) meet their daughter as she returns from a year traveling before going to college, only to find that she has a husband in tow.

Their new son-in-law (Samberg), is a self-styled “spiritual ninja” full of outlandish, New Age ideas.

Show is exec produced by Ash Atalla, one of the masterminds behind the original U.K. version of “The Office,” who said: “The best of British meets the toast of Hollywood. We hope ‘Cuckoo’ cements the special relationship between our two great countries.”

In the U.K., “Cuckoo” will debut on youth-skewed BBC3, home of comedy hits “Little Britain” and “Gavin and Stacey.”
