AMC/Sundance Channel Global is expanding its network across Asia and Europe and has made a slew of programming acquisitions for the Sundance Channel and femme-skewed WE tv.
In South Korea, the Sundance Channel will launch on SK broadband as a high-definition IPTV offering with Korean subtitles. Channel already airs in the country on SkyLife and KT.
In Taiwan, WE tv will launch on Vee Times’s IPTV platform Vee TV in high-def with Mandarin subtitles. Vee TV is the third Taiwanese platform to carry the channel following deals with Chunghwa Telecom and DishHD.
Acquired programming to support network growth in Asia includes premiere and first window rights in 2013 to the second series of sister channel AMC’s “Hell on Wheels” and the first season of BBC drama “The Hour.”
European expansion comprises premiere and first window rights to “Hell on Wheels” in Portugal, Eastern and Central Europe plus second window rights in Spain.
Select Miramax titles, including “Cold Mountain,” “Good Will Hunting” and “Chocolat,” will be available in Asia. “Run Lola Run,” “Flirting With Disaster” and “Smoke” will unspool in Spain.
