ABC Family and Fox TV Studios are reviving the “Home Alone” franchise with “Home Alone 5: Alone in the Dark,” starring Malcolm McDowell, Debi Mazar and Ed Asner.

Set to air as part of ABC Family’s annual “25 Days of Christmas” event, the telepic will star Christian Martyn in the role of the 8-year-old Finn, whose family is moving from sunny California to a scary house in Maine. McDowell, Mazar and Eddie Steeples (“My Name Is Earl”) will play the thieves who target the house.

Peter Hewitt (“Garfield”) is directing a script from Aaron Ginsburg and Wade McIntyre. Jodelle Ferland co-stars as Finn’s sister.

The last “Home Alone” pic, “Home Alone 4: Taking Back the House,” was made to air on ABC in 2002 and starred Mike Weinberg in the role originated by Macaulay Culkin. “Home Alone 5” follows 1997 theatrical release “Home Alone 3” in featuring a different character for the principal child.
