Tune-up for ‘Tron’ toon

Disney's XD preem hit the big screen

Disney is ready to go back to The Grid with “Tron.” The kids cabler Disney XD preemed its new animated series “Tron: Uprising” on May 12 at Disney Toon Studios’ Glendale facilities before it airs June 7.

Event brought out voice actors Elijah Wood, Bruce Boxleitner, Mandy Moore, Nate Corddry, Paul Reubens and Tricia Helfer to the fete, which screened a 30-minute prelude that airs May 21 on Disney XD.

The toon was a way for consulting producers and scribes Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz (“Tron: Legacy” and ABC’s “Once Upon a Time”) to create something that would “satisfy the loyal ‘Tron’ fanbase, but also give new viewers the chance to enter the ‘Tron’ universe for the first time and understand it if they didn’t see the movies,” Horowitz said.

Series takes place between the first and second films.

“If I was going to do an animated version of ‘Tron,’ I didn’t want it to feel like a cheap version of the movies,” said “Uprising” exec producer and director Charlie Bean. “For the 12-year-old in me, it’s what I would want to see.”
