Dealmakers Impact Report 2012: Corporate Strategists

Kolb’s job in 2012 has in large part been about securing new pacts for the network’s familiar talent base, which includes giving them room for more production deals. And it’s all to everyone’s benefit. Re-upping the Kardashians, Chelsea Handler, Giuliana Rancic, Ryan Seacrest and Joel McHale means keeping their future projects in-house, where E! and Comcast/NBC can hold onto revenues. “We try to let talent know that they can grow with us as opposed to growing by leaving us,” says Kolb. Handler, who recently got a new studio for her show “Chelsea Lately,” is a key figure for future development; Kolb calls her program a “foundation of the network,” thanks to additional series like “After Lately” and the new talker “Love You, Mean It With Whitney Cummings.”
