When contract hell emerged for the cast of “Modern Family,” Bernstein collaborated with fellow ICM partner Chris Silbermann to help renegotiate the deals for clients Ty Burrell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet. The agent has also shown a knack for landing clients opportunities across TV, film and theater, as seen with “Boardwalk Empire’s” Bobby Cannavale who, along with working on the hit HBO skein, will appear in Woody Allen’s upcoming comedy and in the legit revival of “Glengarry Glen Ross” opposite Al Pacino.
Words of wisdom: “I would say for young people, have a niche. It’s so incredibly competitive now, having a specific niche can help separate yourself from the rest of the group. Also, have an opinion and listen to your instincts.”
Life-work balance: “For me, it’s about creating boundaries. I have a strong work ethic but allow myself to breathe and be with friends. Ultimately, that ends up making me a better agent.”
Smartphone habits: “I went on a river rafting trip for a week in Idaho, and there was no cell service! For an entire week I was able to recharge because no one could call me, even if they wanted to. But when I do have service on vacation, I have my work phone with me.”
Charitable passion: “Children’s Intl. I’ve sponsored a specific child for a decade and that was gratifying to see it through with one individual for so long.”
