Producer-songwriter Salaam Remi has been appointed executive vp of A&R and production at Sony Music Entertainment.
Remi will helm the Sony labels’ A&R teams directing signing and development of talent. He will be based in New York and report directly to SME CEO Doug Morris.
He is only the latest of several performers or writers to be inked to a senior talent role at the majors. Universal Music Group has been aggressive in bringing top artists and cleffers into the executive suite; Ne-Yo and The-Dream received senior A&R stripes this year.
Remi’s recent credits include Alicia Keys’ “Girl On Fire” and Miguel’s “Kaleidoscope Dream.” He has worked with Usher, Amy Winehouse, Nas, the Fugees and Cee-Lo Green, among others.
He scored the remake of “Sparkle” (Whitney Houston’s final vehicle) and the Mike Tyson documentary “Tyson” and served as executive music producer for both “Sex and the City” features and “Rush Hour 3.” His other film credits include “Blood Diamond,” “Gnomeo and Juliet” and “Tower Heist.”
