CAA in talks with Kwan on joint venture

Sources indicate that agency looking for opportunities in India

CAA is in early talks with Indian talent agency Kwan to set up a joint venture between the two agencies.

While it’s still in the very early stages and a deal has yet to be done, sources indicate that CAA has been looking for opportunities in the subcontinent and at this point it has narrowed discussions to India’s largest talent agency Kwan, which reps a raft of acting, fashion and sports talent.

The move would give CAA another foothold in an emerging market; so far the L.A.-based company has international offices in London and Beijing.

Last week, CAA signed its first Bollywood star, Priyanka Chopra, to its books. The former Miss World and leading Indian thesp is also an aspiring singer and recently signed to Universal Music Group and Desi Hits! Inc.

As the profile of Indian thesps gradually increases across the globe, some sources suggest that if the CAA/Kwan joint venture does materialize, it would be a way to cross-pollinate the talent between the U.S. and India and look to bring major Bollywood talent into English-language productions.

Other talent agencies have also tapped into the Indian market: ICM reps Anil Kapoor, who recently starred in “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.”
