York prefers ‘Blondes’

Actress joins Hilty in Encores! production

Rachel York has signed on join Megan Hilty in the upcoming Encores! staging of “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” next month.

Legit regular York (“Victor/Victoria,” “The Scarlet Pimpernel”) will play the role Jane Russell played in the 1953 movie version of the 1949 tuner. Hilty, who plays one of the Marilyn Monroe wannabes in NBC skein “Smash,” is on board to portray the blonde that Monroe played opposite Russell.

Storyline follows a pair of best friends (York and Hilty) on a sea voyage to Europe. Clarke Thorell, Stephen R. Buntrock and Aaron Lazar also among the thesps in the cast.

Helmed by John Rando and choreographed by Randy Skinner, “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” is the third and final offering of the 2012 season of Encores!, City Center’s annual series of semi-stage revivals of overlooked musicals. The program has yielded a number of Broadway transfers including the longrunning revival of “Chicago.”

“Gentlemen” will play a seven-perf run May 9-13.
