Pride for ‘Lyons’ bow

Monday night afterparty took place at Sardi's

Kathleen K. Johnson, the producer of Nicky Silver’s “The Lyons,” has managed the rare feat of getting the play to Broadway with just a single commercial producer’s name over the title: her own.

At the Monday night afterparty at Sardi’s with the show’s creative team and cast (led by Linda Lavin), Johnson said she was most interested in bringing new writers to Broadway. That includes Silver, who, despite a long career in Off Broadway houses, makes his Rialto debut with “The Lyons.”

So how’d she manage to be the sole name up top in her first outing as a lead producer? She was simply able to raise the money from her investors, she said, who aren’t the usual Broadway types and don’t jostle for a name credit. And how did she sell those investors on “The Lyons”? “I didn’t have to,” she said. “They’re sold on me.”
