Judy Kuhn and Melissa Errico will topline the upcoming Classic Stage Company production of “Passion.”
It’ll be a return to the lead role of Fosca for Kuhn (“Les Miserables”), who initially played the part in a production that was part of the Kennedy Center’s 2002 celebration of the work of composer Stephen Sondheim, who penned “Passion” with book writer James Lapine. Errico (“Amour”) appears as Clara, Fosca’s romantic rival for the affections of an Italian captain in the 19th century.
Donna Murphy won a Tony for her perf as Fosca opposite Marin Mazzie in the 1994 Broadway bow of “Passion.” For the CSC’s Off Broadway staging, no thesp has yet been announced to play the Italian captain portrayed by Jere Shea on the Rialto.
John Doyle — who helmed prior Sondheim outings including “Sweeney Todd,” “Company” and a recent Cincinnati production of “Merrily We Roll Along” — directs the CSC production, on tap to begin perfs in February.
