Lindsay Mendez is among the cast for the upcoming industry reading of the a capella musical “In Transit,” which producers Janet B. Rosen and Christina Papagjika are aiming for a commercial run in the near future.
Christopher Gatelli, a Tony winner this spring for his choreography for “Newsies,” is onboard to direct the project and will helm the reading. Mendez, who attracted notice over the summer for her starring role in Off Broadway tuner “Dogfight,” appears in the reading with a cast that also includes Adam Bashian, Moya Campbell, Ben Crawford, Justin Keyes, Erin Mackey and Chesney Snow.
Snow also appeared in the musical’s 2010 world preem at Off Broadway’s Primary Stages. He’ll play the narrator-beatboxer in the entirely a cappella tuner, which follows a group of disparate characters as their lives intersect in Gotham’s public transportation system.
Kristen Anderson-Lopez, James-Allen Ford, Russell Kaplan and Sara Wordsworth pen “In Transit.”
Papagjika, also an associate producer on Lee Daniels’ upcoming pic “The Butler,” said no details had been finalized regarding a production timeline or whether “In Transit” would land on Broadway or off it, adding that the coming reading (and any investor interest it generates) would help firm up some of those details. The Rialto appears to be the preferred destination for a show that could mobilize as early as the spring.
Invitation-only readings are set for Oct. 12.
