Mary McCann will play the title role in the Atlantic Theater Company’s upcoming Off Broadway production of Simon Stephens’ “Harper Regan.”
McCann, who appeared in the Atlantic’s world preem staging of “Spring Awakening” prior to its Broadway transfer, will star in a “Harper Regan” cast that includes Christopher Innvar (“Porgy and Bess”), Mary Beth Peil (“Follies”), Gareth Saxe (“The Homecoming”) and Madeleine Martin (“Californication”).
Gaye Taylor Upchurch helms the production, returning to the Atlantic after directing a 2011 staging of Simon Russell Beale topliner “Bluebird,” another Stephens play.
Stephens’ work has appeared with increasing frequency on both sides of the Atlantic in recent years. “On the Shore of the Wide World” scribe’s latest outing, “Morning,” just bowed in Edinburgh prior to a London stint.
“Harper Regan” begins previews Sept. 20 ahead of an Oct. 10 opening at the Atlantic.
