Cast goes ‘Beyond the Music’

Hoty, Bartlett tapped for reading

New tuner “Beyond the Music” is gearing up for an industry reading next week that will star Dee Hoty (“The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas”) and Rob Bartlett (“How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying”), among others.

Producer Andy Sandberg (“Hair,” “The Best Man”) penned the book for the show and will direct. Pop-rock tunes are by Emmy winner Cliff Downs and young singer-songwriter Katie Kahanovitz.

Krystal Joy Brown (“Leap of Faith”), Jay Armstrong Johnson (“Hands on a Hard Body”), Andrew Call and Katie Rose Clarke also are among the thesps tapped for the reading.

“Beyond the Music” centers on a young singer-songwriter’s travails in the music industry as she tries to make it big.

Sandberg recently directed short-lived Off Broadway outing “The Last Smoker in America,” which he also produced.

Reading is set for Sept. 10-11 in Gotham. Future plans for the developing musical have yet to be determined.
