Dede Harris to produce stage musical

Dede Harris Prods. has optioned the songbook of Diane Warren for an upcoming Broadway musical.

Warren is one of the highest-profile songwriters out there, with a catalog of familiar tunes that includes “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing,” “If I Could Turn Back Time” and “Because You Loved Me.” She’s penned tunes for artists including Beyonce, Tina Turner, Celine Dion and Ricky Martin and written songs for pics including the soon-to-be-released “Silver Linings Playbook.”

No details about the musical’s potential plotline or its creative team have yet been nailed down.

Harris has produced on the Rialto for more than a decade as a member of the producing teams of titles including “Clybourne Park,” “The Norman Conquests” and the upcoming “Hands on a Hardbody.” The Warren tuner would mark the second time she’ll be a lead producer (after the 2006 transfer of “The Lieutenant of Inishmore” with co-lead Randall L. Wreghitt), working with her associate at Dede Harris Prods., David Carpenter.

Jukebox musicals drawn from the well-known work of popular artists have become a regular presence on the Rialto. A lot of condescension directed at the genre was shaken off with the success of “Jersey Boys,” and these days song catalogs can yield even artsy fare such as “Fela!”

No timeline for the brewing Warren tuner has yet been set.
