Historical musical “Amazing Grace” is getting another Gotham industry showcase in a presentation set to star Robby Benson, Josh Young and Quentin Earl Darrington.

Project has been kicking around for a while now, with Young, a recent Tony nominee for “Jesus Christ Superstar,” and Darrington (“Ragtime”) previously appearing in a reading of the musical last year. This summer the tuner got a fully staged workshop incarnation at Goodspeed Musicals that starred thesps including Whitney Bashor, Harriet D. Foy and Chris Hoch, who will also appear in the Gotham reading.

Musical is based on the life of John Newton, the composer of hymn “Amazing Grace” and a slave trader whose change of heart led him to become a prominent abolitionist. Tuner has music and lyrics by tyro Christopher Smith, who also co-wrote the book with Arthur Giron. Gabriel Barre (“The Wild Party”) directs.

Title is produced by Carolyn Rossi Copeland in association with Alex Rankin, Michael Jenkins, AG Funding and Larry Payton. A potential touring production of the show is already being explored, with Gotham’s The Road Company on board as booking agent.

Presentations of “Amazing Grace” are set for Dec. 11-12 at Lincoln Center’s Clark Studio Theater.
