Shingle nabs U.S. rights to documentary

XLrator Media has acquired all U.S. rights to the documentary “Storm Surfers 3D,” which premiered last month at the Toronto Film Festival.

XLrator Media will release the film next summer.

“With its spectacular, cutting-edge 3D technology and bravura filmmaking, ‘Storm Surfers 3D’ will absolutely blow people’s minds with the most immersive 3D experience since ‘Avatar,’?” said XLrator topper Barry Gordon.

The film follows professional surfers Tom Carroll and Ross Clarke-Jones and surf forecaster Ben Matson as they track and chase giant storms across the Great Southern Ocean.

Pic is narrated by Toni Collette and directed by Christopher Nelius and Justin McMillan.

“Storm Surfers” is produced by Marcus Gillezeau and Ellenor Cox and exec produced by Alaric McAusland, Anthos Simon and Philipp Manderla. The film was financed through Screen Australia, Screen NSW, Deluxe, Red Bull Media House and Fulcrum Media Finance and produced by 6ixty Foot Films in association with Firelight Prods.

Deal was negotiated by Gordon and Nate Bolotin and Aram Tertzakian of XYZ Films on behalf of the filmmakers.
