Will Ferrell flocks to ‘Flamingo Thief’

Actor attached to star in Red Hour Films' adaptation of Susan Trott novel

Will Ferrell is attached to star in Red Hour Films’ “Flamingo Thief,” which Michael LeSieur (“You, Me and Dupree”) will adapt from the novel by Susan Trott.

Ferrell will star as Tim Forrester, a lawyer who becomes obsessed with stealing figurines of flamingos after his wife leaves him.

Red Hour principals Ben Stiller and Stuart Cornfeld will produce, while Aaron Kaplan and Sean Perrone of Kaplan/Perrone Entertainment will exec produce with Erica Steinberg, who brought the project into Red Hour. No director is attached to the project yet, but the producers have commenced their search.

LeSieur’s script appeared on the 2011 Black List, which Ferrell is no stranger to, having recently toplined Dan Rush’s 2008 Black List script “Everything Must Go.”

Ferrell next toplines the Spanish-language comedy “Casa de mi Padre,” and he also stars opposite Zach Galifianakis in Jay Roach’s political comedy “Dog Fight.” Thesp recently produced “Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters,” as well as the Sundance pics “Bachelorette” and “Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie,” which he also co-stars in.

Red Hour recently produced another bird-related pic, David Frankel’s “The Big Year,” as well as Ruben Fleischer’s comedy “30 Minutes or Less.”
