Tribeca Film has conjured up U.S. rights to “War Witch,” the Kim Nguyen film that had its North American preem at the Tribeca Film Festival in the spring.

Congo-shot tale starring newcomer Rachel Mwanza world preemed at the Berlin Film Festival, where Mwanza snagged a Silver Bear for actress. She also took home the actress kudo at Tribeca, which awarded the film the laurel for narrative feature.

Story centers on a young girl who is kidnapped by African rebels and forced to become a soldier. Alain Bastien, Serge Kanyianda, Ralph Prosper and Mizinga Mwinga also are among the cast. Written and directed by Nguyen, pic was produced by Pierre Even and Marie-Claude Poulin of Item 7.

Tribeca Film, the Gotham-based distributor loosely affiliated with the Tribeca fest, aims to release the movie on multiple platforms in early 2013.
