Voltage Pictures has picked up tyro scribe Derek Kolstad’s action-thriller spec “Acolyte” and is producing and financing the project.
Voltage topper Nicolas Chartier and Craig Flores are producing with New Wave Entertainment’s Josh Adler and Mike Goldberg exec producing.
“Acolyte” centers on a rogue government agency that’s using blackmail to coerce everyday citizens into committing acts of domestic terror. The agency mistakenly kidnaps the wife of a retired operative who responds by recruiting a disbanded group of trained “associates” to exact revenge and rescue his wife.
Voltage is out to directors on “Acolyte,” which is being developed as a franchisable Jason Bourne-style story with an ensemble cast.
Voltage recently wrapped Robert Redford’s “The Company You Keep” and its John Stockwell-directed drama “Code Name Geronimo” about the hunt for Osama bin Laden.
Kolstad is repped by UTA, New Wave Entertainment and Howard Abramson and Jennifer Levy of Behr Abramson.
