Producers Chad A. Verdi and Noah Kraft have signed Ben Younger to direct biopic “Paz,” based on the life of boxer Vinny Pazienza.
“Paz” centers on the comeback story of Pazienza, who broke his neck in a car accident but came back to win three more world titles after being told he’d never walk again. Producers plan to begin shooting in September.
Younger, who wrote and directed “Boiler Room” and “Prime,” will rewrite the “Paz” script.
Verdi and Kraft produced romantic drama “Loosies,” currently in release from IFC Films.
Project has been in development for several years. Angelo Pizzo, screenwriter of sports dramas “Hoosiers,” “Rudy” and “The Game of Their Lives,” signed on in 2010.
Verdi has known Paz, who changed his last name from Pazienza when he took up boxing, since boyhood.
