Vega a go to star in ‘Standby Lovers’

Role reteams Spanish thesp with Pedro Almodovar

Spanish thesp Paz Vega is set to reteam with her “Talk to Her” helmer Pedro Almodovar on his new film, “Standby Lovers.”

Vega joins her “Talk to Her” co-star Javier Camara and Jose Maria Yazpik (“The Burning Plain”) in the romantic dramedy, which the helmer’s brother, Agustin Almodovar, will produce.

Story follows a group of airplane passengers traveling to Mexico City who are provoked into colorful confessions when they are placed in a life-threatening situation.

Film Nation is handling international sales for the pic, skedded to shoot this summer in Spain in advance of a 2013 release. Vega broke out Stateside playing the title role in 2001’s “Sex and Lucia,” which led to lead roles in James L. Brooks’ “Spanglish” and Brad Silberling’s “10 Items or Less.” Vega will soon be heard voicing a character in DreamWorks Animation’s “Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted,” which Paramount releases Friday.

Vega is repped by WME, Management Production Entertainment and attorney Michael Eisner.
