Matt Damon, John Krasinski star in Focus Features pic

Focus Features has set “Promised Land” for an Oscar-qualifying run in exclusive engagements in New York and Los Angeles on Dec. 28, prior to an expansion in January.

Matt Damon and John Krasinski star in the film directed by Gus Van Sant from a screenplay by Krasinski and Damon based on a story by Dave Eggers.

Participant Media co-financed the movie, for which Focus holds worldwide rights. Damon and Krasinski produced the movie with Chris Moore.

Cast includes Rosemarie DeWitt, Hal Holbrook, Scoot McNairy, Titus Welliver and Frances McDormand.

Damon plays a corporate salesman who arrives in a rural town with his sales partner, played by McDormand. With the town having been hit hard by the economic decline of recent years, the two outsiders see the local citizens as likely to accept their company’s offer for drilling rights to their properties.
