After a brief foray into animation with 2009’s “Fantastic Mr. Fox,” director Wes Anderson returns to his eclectic, live-action roots with the summer camp feature “Moonrise Kingdom.”

Set in New England in 1965, “Moonrise” tells the story of a boy and a girl who run away from camp, only to be chased by a bunch of quirky adults played by Edward Norton, Bruce Willis, Frances McDormand and Bill Murray.

The trailer feels verrrry Wes Anderson and will likely test your threshold for 12 year-old dilettantes (unless, of course, you shimmied on the beach to French pop in the fifth grade). Still, it’s nice to see the “Rushmore” director back in his comfort zone, even if it feels, at times, like a stubborn endeavor.

“Moonrise Kingdom” opens in limited release May 25, 2012.
